Patrice Evra has represented France at the international level since 2004 and has won 14 international caps. He appeared in a match against Netherlands during the 2008 Euro tournament.
Patrice Evra began his football career by playing as a striker for Paris Saint-Germain's youth team during his teenage years. While playing for this club, he was spotted by a talent scout from an Italian club, Sport Club Marsala 1912, and he went on to play for the club from 1998. Called as “Black Gazelle” by the locals, Patrice Evra featured in 27 games for Marsala as a striker and scored six goals.
The following season, Patrice Evra moved to Associazione Calcio Monza Brianza 1912, which is an Italian football club based in Monza and played three games for this club. After his tenure with Monza, he returned to France in 2000 to play for the Olympique Gymnaste Club de Nice-Côte d'Azur in Ligue 2 and played as a centre-forward in the first several matches. He has also played as a left-back whenever the situation demanded and was named the Ligue 2’s best left back. In 2002, Patrice Evra signed a contract with the Association Sportive de Monaco football club and became a regular player at defense. He was a part of the team that won the Coupe de la Ligue in 2003 and contributed to the team’s second-place finish in Ligue 1 during the 2002-03 season. He helped his team reach the finals of the 2004 Union of European Football Association (UEFA) Champions League and finished runners-up in the competition. Following this performance, Patrice Evra was selected to wear the captain’s armband for several matches.
On January 10, 2006, Patrice Evra signed a three and a half year contract with the Manchester United football club and debuted on January 14, 2006, as a second-half substitute in a match against Manchester City. His home debut happened on January 22, 2006, when he helped his team win the match against Liverpool, and he scored his first goal for the club in a Premiership match against Everton at Old Trafford on November 29, 2006. On April 10, 2007, Patrice Evra scored the final goal in the match that Manchester United played against Roma and went on to win 7-1.
